The only idea I have in my addled brain currently is flippant at best:
Have EVERYONE try to get on that page.
It was my first, and still sadly only, thought:
"Wow. I wanna be on there! How ridiculous that would be!"
That led to my continuing the idea to a not terribly viable but still possible solution: have as many people as possible TRY to be arrested for it, as a form of protest. It would draw massive media coverage, to say the least.
It's Asheville. Having lived there eleven years taught me that people will do the strangest things in light of protest.
Hmm.

My friends and I have been discussing this issue of prostitution for years. I have alway believed it should be legalized or uncodified as I've long held that in years past this profession was exactly that, an honorable profession.

Many women in the past held great social status and earned significant incomes from this. It's only been since women's lib and the advent of orgs like NOW that prostitution was coded into law as subversive to society.

Your point thought is well taken, without having been convicted of a crime at the time the picture is posted would seem to me punishment prior to your day in court. I think these women should sue the heck out of that city.

P.S.: I voted for your photo contest... good luck.

From the fine Florence, SC area, you can view the charges also and complete with pictures, names, and addresses, online at the Sheriff's website. Only *recently* have the bookings been removed from the Florence Morning News. Nevermind the disclaimer at the website that says in tiny letters wa-a-a-y beneath their mug shot:

"*Information is provided as a convenience and should not be relied upon for any legal action. Arrestees are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law."

I'm glad to see you writing this. I thought I was the only person who took issue with this kind of business. And living in small southern towns...well *you* know...

It's not rocket science how to find it by Google, as I was going to post the link here to the site. But I think it's so disgusting I won't bother. I've lived in this area since 1992 and have known it to be backwards and hick but this has got to violate some sort of federal privacy laws or something.

Remember. This was the state that introduced the idea of a doctor FORCING women to look at their ultrasound before an abortion. [The idea being naturally to dissuade her.] Close call when the Attorney General struck that saying it was unconstitutional. [Although I think it actually passed in the State house and had to get through the Senate.]

SC is like that, I've noticed. They try to infringe and even break federal laws with impunity and maybe even succeed...I don't know. But people get arrested and found guilty and all this other backwardsness...and nothing changes until it gets appealed and appealed and appealed and then, finally, repealed.

This public display of information seems another sort. Yeah I know: Public Record, blah blah blah. But does Public Record mean Public Dissemination? Isn't that a very real difference? Or maybe it doesn't even *NEED* to be public record. Maybe finding someone guilty should be the only public record and even then, do they not -or do their families not have a right to not have their addresses disclosed?
